WHY DO TOURISTS PAY TAX IN MEXICO AND HOW THE TAX ARE BEING PAID?

We know that a Tax is a financial charge imposed by the government on its citizens in order to utilize the revenue in the development of the country's social amenities or infrastructure etc. However in Mexico, taxes are not only imposed on its citizens, but also it tourists. We would be discussing more about this in details to understand the why the tourist are required to pay taxes. 

WHY DO TOURISTS PAY TAX IN MEXICO? 

The tax fees are applied to tourists or every traveler over the age 4 that intend to pay a visit to any part of Quintana Roo state. The tax has been made mandatory by the Mexican government since April 1st 2021. The tax has actually been in existence for over a year but majority are very much unaware of its existence. The Mexico tourist tax was imposed by the Mexican government to serve as a medium to raise funds for the sole purpose of developing the tourism sector. The total amount this tax was estimated to generate would be up to $29 million dollars in 2021. 

HOW THE TAX ARE BEING PAID

The Mexico tourist tax payment method is quite very effective, efficient and easy, to top it all, it takes no more than 5 minutes. All that are being required to make this payment are; A valid passport, a functional Email address, A credit card or if possible a PayPal account. Once the payment has been made the tourists or travelers receives a confirmation message on their Email within just several minutes. Just as an advice to tourists that plan on returning to their various countries, even after payment have been made and the confirmation message has been received, it is very much advisable the travelers ensure they make printed copies of the documents. They may have to show the document to the security before they would be allowed to board their flight back.
