Mindfulness from Jon Kabat-Zinn
This video about Mindfulness meditation is a great seminar by Dr. Kabat-Zinn that he did at Google. He is a fantastic speaker and this video has a lot of good information for you. It is a little long but you will defiantly find it worth the watch. In this video Dr. Kabat-Zinn will talk about his system and the importance of meditation for everyone in their daily life. For those of you that have never heard of Jon Kabat-Zinn, he is a scientist, writer, meditation teacher and professor emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He graduated with his Ph.D. in 1971, among his many teachers was Nobel Prize winner Salvador Luria. He also studied yoga and Buddhism under Zen Master Seung Sahn.
For 23 years from 1979 to 2002 he was focused on research, specifically on the mind/body interactions for healing as well as the effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) on the brain, body, and immune system.
His work has contributed to a growing awareness of meditation and mindfulness in medicine, health care and hospitals, schools, corporations, prisons, and professional sports. As well he has founded and been apart of some of the most famous and influential institutes, centers and associations related to the mind and body connection.
He has lectured and taught for decades around the world to groups of judges, business leaders, lawyers, clergy, Olympic athletes, and environmental activists. He also conducts annual mindfulness retreats for business leaders and innovators… and currently over 250 medical centers around the world now use the MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) model.
Some of his Awards
- In 1998, he received the Art, Science, and Soul of Healing Award from the Institute for Health and Healing, California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco,
- In 2001, the 2nd Annual Trailblazer Award for “pioneering work in the field of integrative medicine” from the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, Calif.
For me an interesting fact is that he is also on the board of the Mind and Life Institute, a group that organizes dialogues between the Dalai Lama and Western scientists to promote deeper understanding of the nature of mind, emotions, and reality. I personally have a great respect for the Dalai Lama and what he teaches.

There are a number of benefits to meditation. Meditation allows us access to our subconscious minds and that is the most powerful tool we have to make changes in our lives. It also gives are mind a rest while it is still alert, the process of this over a long period of time trains the mind to deal with things that cause stress and still be able to relax itself (because the mind comes to the conclusion that it is indeed possible to be relaxed while thinking of stressful events).
I hope you find this useful and I will be spending more time developing the Mind side of this site, with a background of 20 years studying Psychology and also being a certified Master hypnotist and hypnotherapist, I feel it is time to share more of that knowledge here on my site.
Look forward to your comments on the video below.
