The health benefits of bananas are defiantly not just for the monkeys. It is one of the coolest fruits you can have, with some unique properties.

I have made this page to help you discover the many health benefits of bananas. And  for people and to get everyone eating more of them. They are a very cost effective fruit, and contain lots of nutrition and fuel for the body.

There are also many other benefits to eating them that you may not be aware of such as: Bananas combat depression, make you smarter, cure hangovers, relieve morning sickness, protect against kidney cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and blindness.

Another interesting fact is they can cure the itch of a mosquito bite (by rubbing the inside of a banana peal on the bite), and living in South East Asia this one is a nice addition for me!.

Bananas are both high in potassium and also low in salt. Bananas are officially recognized by the FDA as being able to lower blood pressure, and protect against heart attack and stroke.

Foods that are rich in potassium help the body’s circulatory system deliver oxygen to the brain. Potassium also helps in maintaining regular heart rhythm and balancing blood pressure and the water in the body.

In terms of yoga, the potassium in bananas also prevents muscle cramps during and after exercise.

The truth is that bananas can help lift your spirit. Bananas contain an amino acid called tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential element for the production of serotonin, a mood regulating neurotransmitter in the brain, which contributes to the feelings of relaxation and happiness.

There is research that shows that  people suffering from depression often reported feeling better after eating a banana.

Bananas only have aprox. 110 calories each, and because they are packed with fiber they can fill you up quicker then other snacks, without adding to many calories. So they are great to snack on when loosing weight.

In addition they taste great and can satisfy that sweet tooth we sometimes have.

Another health benefits of bananas is they have about 3 grams of Fiber each. Why is this important, well from the last point you can see that fiber can help fill you up so you do not eat too much, and can help you to control your calorie intake naturally.

Another aspect is of course Fiber helps you have a healthy digestive system and help to eliminate constipation and make you more regular.

7. Bananas are a good source of Manganese

One medium banana provide 0.3 mg of manganese. Adults need 1.8 mg for females and 2.3 mg for males of manganese daily, this is very easy to do from your diet alone, with one Banana giving you about 15% of your daily requirement.

Manganese helps in the formation of connective tissue, bones, blood clotting factors, and sex hormones. It also has its place in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, calcium absorption, and blood sugar regulation.

Manganese is also necessary for the body to have normal brain and nerve function.
